Horton Smith's 1929 Greater Pensacola Open Golf Tournament Winner's 14k Gold Medal @ Pensacola Country Club
Scalloped edged 1 3/8" diameter 14k Gold victors medal themed with raised image of time period golfer on the front side. Verso of medal in block letters proclaims the achievement "Greater Pensacola Open Golf Tournament " "Feb 8-9-10-1929 Low Scorer Won By Horton Smith Score 274". Below that is stamping 14K. Smith's win as a 20 year old at the prestigious Pensacola Country Club jump started him to a record setting at the time 8 wins for a first-year performer. in later years the World War II veteran was long-time head golf professional at the Detroit Golf Club in Michigan, as well as Oak Park in Illinois. Hall of Fame member Smith was also a popular choice for the American Ryder Cup team, representing his country in five straight tournaments starting in his rookie season of 1929. The conclusion of a spectacular first-year that saw him win 8 titles with 6 second place finishes in 23 events. Rookie year winners medal that spring boarded Smith to PGA stardom and Hall of Fame honors.

All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period (at 10pm EST, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval). 1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm EST
