Horton Smith's 1941 St Paul Junior Assoc. of Commerce Open 1st Place Winner's Medal -Last of 30 Career PGA Wins
When Hall of Famer Horton Smith closed out the last of his 30 career PGA wins with a triumph in the 1941 St. Paul Open, he did it the same way he had captured many of the first 29 with a hot putter. In the fourth and final round he rode his blazing putter to post a brilliant 63 for an aggregate score of 276 and a one stroke win over Ralph Guldahl. What a match up this must have been of the former Masters champions, with Smith winning titles in 1934 and '36 while Guldahl reigned at Augusta in 1939. For this triumph Smith received the time period appropriate golfer adorned medal offered here. The award proudly displays the wording Saint Paul Junior Association of Commerce on the front of the 1 1/8" x 1 3/" medal. Engraving on the verso of the medal proclaims 12th St. Paul Open 1st Place Pro. For Smith it was his last PGA Championship, but one of the finest of his Hall of Fame career.
