1950 US Open Championship Contestant Pin

The 1950 U.S. Open marked the first major Jack Fleck would qualify for in his career. Offered here is his contestants badge from that event the facing side of the 1 1/8" x 1 1/4" metal badge of entrance bears the wording "PLAYER","1950" and"U.S.G.A" in raised fashion with a hunter green enameled circular accent which states"OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP". The reverse of this badge, from the 1950 Championship won by Ben Hogan at Merion Golf Club, still carries it's original pin clasp in working fashion. For Hogan it was his first post accident victory (4th of 9 career major wins). This is one of the most historically significant events in golf history, and would grow in recognition to be known simply as the "Miracle at Merion". Hogan would always maintain that the 1950 U.S. Open meant the most to him among his career victories. With only 150 players who can lay claim to being part of the field for that moment in golf history, a contestants pin from the "Miracle" truly is a treasure that only a select few collectors can own.

Please note: This auction will end at 7:00pm EST on September 28th with extended bidding to follow. All items in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period. All lots are free to be bid on until extended bidding has ended.
