1961 PGA Championship Contestant Money Clip
In 1961 Jack Fleck facing a PGA championship field of 162 players closed with a final round 70 to tie Gardner Dickinson and Bob Rosburg for 19th place. The badge of contestants admittance that year for the PGA displayed a baby blue, burgundy and gold color pattern of enamel against the 1 ½” x 2 ½” money clip which carried engraving 1961 on its facing side. Fleck's money clip issued for the '61 event is offered here still retaining all it's original enamel. The reverse of this memento carries stampings of where these matches were contested "Olympia Fields Country Club" "Olympia Fields, Illinois" and the date July 27-30. When seen the remaining PGA contestants badges, from the original 162 issued to players, can often not be associated to any specific player. Adding extra value to this example is the known quantity of Jack Fleck and his status as a major winner of the 1955 U.S. Open.
Please note: This auction will end at 7:00pm EST on September 28th with extended bidding to follow. All items in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period. All lots are free to be bid on until extended bidding has ended.
