Jack Nicklaus' Personal Used 'IQ Insert' Wedge with His Clubmaker Jack Wulkotte's Signed Shaft Label
Most of Jack Nicklaus' historic win clubs now rest in the Nicklaus Museum at Ohio State. Of these treasures Jack Wullkotte claims that he worked on 96% of them for Nicklaus. With this concentration in one display, it has made it difficult for collectors to own a game used club in their collection from the G.O.A.T. of golf. This lot offers a solution with impeccable provenance from Wullkotte who was Nicklaus' personal clubmaker for over 40 years starting in 1962. The 35 inch 'IQ Insert' sand wedge which features an attached typed and signed note from Wullkotte which states "I certify that this golf club was in the possession of and used by Jack Nicklaus. Signed by Jack Wullkotte." The club displays definite use, but not abuse. Griptec brand leather grips in traditional 'hard as rock' format adorn the club worked by Wullkotte and hit by Nicklaus. The clubmaker to the Golden Bear haled originally from Cincinnati where he learned the business at MacGregor Golf working clubs for Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson. Over his Clubmakers Hall of Fame career, Wullkotte was also the favored craftsman for David Graham, Ed Sneed, Bruce Devlin and Tom Weiskopf. This lot is a must for the Nicklaus and golf club collectors who insist on definite provenance for their collection.
