In 1938, a groundbreaking study that would flip the golf instruction profession on its head occurred, finally equipping the industry with the visuals necessary to properly study the swing and its intricacies. This was conducted by Harold Edgerton of the firm Edgerton, Germeshausen and Grier (E&G) with the perfect swing sequence subject - Bobby Jones himself. This phenomenal PSA 'Type I' photo of Bobby Jones in front of a white screen and club in hand was captured during that study, with the lights still on and details of Jones himself such as the facial expression and tie flapping able to be picked up in the full body shot. State-of-the-art high-speed photography had become newly available. While the verso caption of this photo is mostly accurate, it states that the high-speed rate was at 1/50,000 per second. Most accounts have deemed it twice as high at 1/100,000 of a second. ACME media stamping is also present on the verso of this 'Type I' original Bobby Jones photo that is encapsulated by PSA for both presentation and preservation. Verso caption reads: "A high speed shot of Bobby Jones making an iron shot. The camera caught the club at the exact instant of contact, showing clearly the squashed ball. Exposure-About 1/50,000 of a second."
