LeRoy Neiman Signed 'April at Augusta' Art Piece from Personal Collection
LeRoy Neiman trained at Chicago's prestigious School of the Art Institute, known for his trademark handlebar mustache and his bright, impressionistic portrayals of the world's top sporting events, he was a regular at major golf events as evidenced in his acclaimed 1992 coffee table book "Big Time Golf." It was only natural that Neiman would appear at the Augusta National for the Masters. The magnificent work of Neiman is captured in this piece which is framed, measuring 55 1/2" x 47 1/2". It depicts Jack Nicklaus following through on the tenth tee of the Masters, while Nick Faldo, the eventual champion in 1990, watches. The artist has carefully noted Nicklaus' classic swing, and even his interlock grip. Over Jack's shoulder the background is presented with the famed enormous oak tree which stands beside the stately Georgian clubhouse, both instantly recognizable to fans of the Masters. The event, like this serigraph, affords the viewer verdant beauty and golfing excellence. Neiman captures the pageantry as well as the athletic grace of the course in Augusta. As is traditional this work comes hand signed in pencil (a '10' signature strength) by LeRoy Neiman in the right lower hand corner of the work. This piece came from Neiman's personal collection, as the plaque in the frame states. This is surely an opportunity not often afforded to collectors, to bid on a magnificent piece like this from the personal collection of the artist.
James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed the signature and their auction letter of authenticity will come with this lot.
