Tom Watson was the tour money winner that year, but unfortunaterly missed the cut leaving the door open to the rest of the field, one man took full advantage. Held at Atlanta Athletic Club, Larry Nelson won the first of his three major titles, four strokes ahead of runner-up Fuzzy Zoeller.
