1938 Masters Tournament Press Badge with Ribbon - Picard Winner

This was the first year that the tournament came to be known officially as the Masters. In 1934 Co-Founder of the Augusta National Clifford Roberts had wanted to call the event the Masters, but Bobby Jones vetoed such a designation on the grounds that it was too presumptuous. However in 1938, Jones relented and the name Masters is seen on this 1938 Masters Press Badge for the first time offered in this lot. Desired, seldom seen press badge in poor condition, the answer to many collections. Badge button has 2 1/2" diameter, ribbon extends 3" from bottom of button. Ribbon is intact, pin missing on reverse, and considerable crack present on front right side above and below nameplate. Crack also present on front left near 'M' in 'Masters'. Please see photos
