Vintage Unmarked Rut Iron with 3 1/2" Hosel - Heavy Head

The St. Andrews grounds were shared by footballers, archers, golfers, and even horse-and-buggy rigs that transported items such as seaweed and sand. All of this vigorous activity lift ruts in the playing field especially the cart wheels. These ruts were considered run-of-the-mill hazards. As such, the rut iron was created . It was shaped roughly to the wheel width and had a significant loft. The Rut Iron performed as promised, getting the pellet up and out of trouble. The consignor of this item specializes in clubs that originated at named golf or country clubs a century or more ago. This club measures 38" to the heel.
