President George H. W. Bush Handwritten, Fully Signed Thank You to Doug Sanders

In 1993 the United States 41st President George H.W. Bush built and moved into his retirement home in the West Oaks section of Houston, Texas. His Houston neighbor, friend and golfing buddy Doug Sanders kindly sent a house warming gift to the Bush family. This lot features a note card from the 41st President thanking him for the gift. The card is appropriate in that it depicts the Bush's new home. The expression of thanks is crafted entirely in the former President's hand(including golf reference to eagles) and is completed with a full name signature, it reads "Dear Doug -
This is simply a thank you. You shouldn't have sent us such a nice present but you did. We're grateful. May your life in 1994 be full of eagles and peace and joy"
George Bush
President Bush was a life long devote to the game of golf. After his presidency, Bush became even more involved with the game. He was given the PGA of America Distinguished Service Award in 1997, the USGA’s 2008 Bob Jones Award and the PGA TOUR Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009. He was also elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame. Doug Sanders had thirteen top-ten finishes in major championships, including four second-place finishes: 1959 PGA Championship, 1961 U.S. Open, 1966 and 1970 British Opens. In 1966, he became one of the few players in history to finish in the top ten of all four major championships in a single season, despite winning none of them. He did however win 20 times on the PGA Tour and was a member of the 1967 United States Ryder Cup team. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed the autograph of President George Bush, and their letter of authenticity will come with this lot.
