Dwight D. Eisenhower Personal Spalding Robert T. Jones Jr. Sand Club Reg No. 642299 - With Heavy Use
This offering contains a Dwight D. Eisenhower Personal Spalding Robert T. Jones Jr. Sand Club that was gifted from Dwight D. Eisenhower to General Leonard D. Heaton. Heaton was the Surgeon General of the US Army from 1959-1969, and President Eisenhower was one of his patients. It bears the engraved signature Dwight Eisenhower, on the Presidents stated preferred model Robert T. Jones Jr. Spalding club. Displays significant use from many rounds of use. For those with a concentration in "match used" relics, this remarkable club is even more appealing knowing that it was in the hands of the most influential man the world knew in the 1940's and 1950's. This was specifically crafted for "General Ike" by his good friend at Augusta National Golf Club Bobby Jones. Other of Eisenhower's clubs can be seen at the Gettysburg Museum of History. Following his two terms as President of the United States (1953-61), Eisenhower returned to Gettysburg, PA following his presidency, a retreat that he had spent much of his post-World War II time at. The nation's number one fan of golfing continued to immerse himself in the sport at the Gettysburg Country Club. A letter of Provenance from PGA of America historian accompanies this lot. It measures 35" from the top of the grip to the bottom of the heel.
