The start of the Winter Professional season was held yearly at the Miami Open. From 1924 to 1955 it was the longest running event held at the same course. The events winners reads like a whose, who of top golfers from that time period and includes Doug Ford, Jackie Burke, Jr.,Jimmy Demaret, Henry Picard, Byron Nelson, Gene Sarazen, and a tournament record six times by Sam Snead. "The Slammer" closed out his first full season with a win there in December of 1937 and won the final event contested in 1955. The 17th Miami Open was contested in 1940 and Felix Serafin's 1 1/2 inch in diameter contestant's pin and ribbon are offered here. A similar second white celluloid pinback with blue reversing script is offered with this lot and was issued with typed name to Mrs. Felix Serafin. Both pins remain in Ex+ condition on the fronts of pins, retain their original pinbacks, but do exhibit some rusting on the reverse sides. A further note on this very historical tournament is that Arnold Palmer made his first professional start at the 1954 event. Only a temporary setback was experienced as he missed the cut.

Session 1: Lots 1-500 will end on 4/11/13 and Session 2 Lots 500+ will end on 4/14/13 with extended bidding to start at 9:00 PM EST for both sessions. In order to bid in extended bidding you must place a bid on the lot before 9pm on auction closing day.
