Bobby Jones Signed 1935 'Rights and Wrongs of Golf' Spalding Booklet
The story of this publication signed on the cover by Bobby Jones is best told by the individual that is closest to the recipient, his son Rev. John M. Hines of North Carolina. Across the front of the well known 1930's booklet from Spalding with Bobby Jones' black and white image is a 1939 dated full name pencil signature from the subject. The letter of provenance from Hines reads: "My father, John H. Hines, was the Rector of St Paul's Episcopal Church in Augusta, GA. from 1937 to 1941. He was given a Clergy Membership at Augusta National and became acquainted with Bobby Jones. I found out from my older brother Mike that Mr. Jones gave my dad this signed pamphlet when my father delivered the Benediction to a dinner promoting The Augusta Invitational Tournament. My Father went from Georgia to become Bishop of the Diocese of Texas then Presiding Bishop of the US from 1963 to 1972. Faithfully yours, Rev. John M. Hines of Cashiers, NC." Many would argue that each advanced golf collection needs a Bobby Jones signature. Bobby Jones was of course career lawyer that co-founded the Augusta National Golf Club and a life-long amateur golfer. Merely mentioning Bobby Jones had an impact on The Masters would be selling him extremely short. He was The Masters, from building Augusta National Golf Club the way he envisioned doing it to starting the "Invitation Tournament" in 1934. The first playing was only four years of course after his Grand Slam year of 1930 in which he won the US Open, US Amateur, Open Championship and British Amateur. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.

NEW AUCTION CLOSING RULES:
Place your bids now as this auction will close LOT BY LOT beginning at 9:00pm ET Sunday, May 23rd. When placing INITIAL bid, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. The countdown clock will be set for a 30-minute interval. Each lot will have it’s own 30-minute countdown. The clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm ET
4. All lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 9pm ET
**Once extended bidding starts at 9pm ET, each lot will then begin closing with its own 30-minute countdown timer. We recommend you place your maximum bid(s) prior to that time. Thank you**
