On the occassion of Chick Evans' 70th birthday in 1960 a testimonial dinner was held in Chicago. Offered here is the menento from the event, an ashtray, featuring the facsimile signatures of each of the Evans Caddy Schloarship winners to date. The Hall of Famer Evans won both the 1916 US Open and US Amateur,a single year feat equalled only by Bobby Jones, thus becoming the topic of books and golf instructional records. Not wanting to lose his amateur status, he used the proceeds from these projects to form the Evans Caddy Schloarship program in 1929, with the first recipients of schloarships presented in 1930. This schloarship overseen by the Western Golf Association remains prominent for it's work some 80 plus years later. The underside of the Evans ashtray carries the markings of Delano Studios Setauket, L.I. NY and notice that the ashtray was provided to guests from the Brunswick Co. and it's MacGregor Division. This piece retains its attractive design and coloring with only one exception being the chipping to it's lower left corner. A second item included with this auction lot is a 1969 paperback reprint of the 1921 penning "Chick Evans Golf Book The Story of the Sporting Battles of the Greatest of All Amateur Golfers". This publication remains internally near fine condition with some surface wear to cover.

This item comes from the Penna Family Collection. This highly successful and respected professional golfing family offers golf mementoes from the careers of brothers Toney Penna and Charley Penna, and Tommy Armour whom Toney and Charley worked under for many years as pros at Boca Raton in Florida and various courses in the Chicago area. Toney was a consistent top 20 money winner on the PGA Tour in the 1930's and 40's while his brother Charley competed in 20 U.S. Open and PGA Championships. We have it all from their storied careers in golf both on and off the course, including everything from contestant’s pins, to used sets of clubs, and prototypes for Penna's famous clubs. Toney is an icon when it comes to club making in the 20th Century, first with the MacGregor Golf Company as their chief of design and then later with his own brand of Penna clubs. Many of the designs of club heads used today were first developed by the genius of Toney. We introduce you to this extraordinary collection by offering various lots from the family’s collection in this special offering. This is an opportunity to acquire golf history, possibly for the last time.

In order to bid in extended bidding you must place a bid on the lot before 9pm on auction closing day.[11]
