This 1953 U.S. Open Championship Pin was a gift to the consignors Dad, Sam Bender from Frank Stranahan with whom he shared a 60+ year friendship. According to USGA records In 1953 Frank placed 13th and was awarded a small gold medal from the usga for his 13th place finish. With this example of the 1953 (1 1/8" x 1 1/4")U.S. Open contestants badge you will never have to worry about an upgrade for your collection. With vibrant enamel complete and original clasp strongly intact . His victory in the 1953 Open was also dominate with Hogan firing an opening round 67 to establish a lead he held from start to finish as the only player to better par for the 72 holes (-5) posting a six shot win over second place finisher Sam Snead. The win at Oakmont in 1953 marked Hogan's fourth and final U.S. Open triumph.
