This 1954 U.S. Open Championship Pin was a gift to our consignor's dad , Sam Bender from Frank Stranahan with whom he shared a 60+ year friendship. With items such as tickets and badges which are worn over 72 holes of Championship golf, by spectators and contestants alike. You find a wide range of varying conditions on these treasured keepsakes. The 1 1/8" x 1 1/4" Contestants badge from the 1954 U.S. Open held at Balltrusol offered in this lot is commendably clean and attractive in a minimal NR-MT condition. Ed Furgol was a one stroke winner over Gene Littler in the 1954 United States Championship. Mr. Stranahan did not confine his accomplishments of golf, he was ahead of his time in physical fitness ranking 1st in his weight class in power-lifting, from 1945-1954, and running in 102 marathons. Mr. Stranahan passed away on June 23rd of this year. The pin measures 1 1/8" x 1 1/4"
