The 1951 Walker Cup held at Royal Birkdale and won by the United States over the Great Britain & Ireland team (7 1/2-4 1/2)marked the third straight victorious Walker Cup team that Frank Stranahan had participated on (1947,49,51). Offered in this lot is his money clip, used as contestants credentialing, for the matches. It features the raised logo of the United States team along with etchings into the medal of "1951 Walker Cup Team" and "Frank R. Stranahan".These clips were produced in extremely low numbers only for coaches, players and U.S.G.A. and R&A V.I.P. staff working the event. This scarcity of production combined with the star power of Stranahan. Who was the leading United States amateur golfer from the late 1930's until the mid 1950's. Honored as one of the top 10 U.S. Amateur Golfers, he bridged the time period between the amateur golf successes of Bobby Jones and Tiger Woods. His top performances included second place finishes as an amateur competitor in both the British Open and Masters along with two British Amateur titles. This cherished collectible remains in top condition very similar to its original luster of 1951 presentation.
