1949 Top Amateur Gof-fer Trophy Awarded By Kansas City Golf Assoc.
Frank Stranahan in October of 1949 was named the Outstanding Amateur Golfer of the Year by the Kansas City Golf Association. In a play on words they awarded the recipient a Gof-fer (gopher) trophy at their banquet. Sam Snead was also in attendance, and received a similar trophy as the Professional Golfer of the Year. Two additional awards were given to the top local amateur and professional golfers in the Kansas City area.
