1949 US Open Championship at Medinah Contestant Badge

World Golf Hall of Fame's Cary Middlecoff was dialed in at the prized venue just outside of Chicago with brilliant second and third rounds of 67 and 69 over the tough layout of Medinah's No. 3 course just outside of Chicago. The eventual 1949 US Open victor saw his large lead challenged over the final round by Clayton Haefner and Slammin Sammy Snead. Though challenged, Middlecoff held on for a one stroke margin of victory over both his pursuers. Up for bidding consideration in this lot is a 1949 US Open Championship at Medinah Contestant Badge employing the traditional time-period USGA contestant badge design with a red circle containing the early "USGA" organization logo design. The verso contains some expected signs of aging, as depicted in the accompanying lot photos. 1 1/4"
