Gary Player's Personal USGA Centennial US & US Senior Open Wins Medallion with Provenance Letter

In 1995 the USGA celebrated their 100th anniversary and presented each of their tournament champions with a sizable 3" diameter medallion featuring their 'Centennial' logo on the front and the respective champion and their win(s) engraved on the verso. 'Gary Player - Open Champion 1965 - Senior Open Champion 1987-1988' reads the verso of Gary Player's personal USGA career accomplishments gift in this lot. The 'Centennial' logo the United States Golf Association appropriately chose was Francis Ouimet with his young caddie side-by-side at the 1913 US Open. At the 1965 US Open the South African showed up to Bellerive with his Shakespeare fiberglass shafted clubs in the trunk and a 16-year old caddy named Frank Pagel beside him. The unconventional approach worked and Gary Player completed the career Grand Slam quicker than any before him, at the age of 26. A signed letter of provenance comes with this lot. 3" diameter
