Bobby Jones International News Wire Photo - 6/13/30

Top United States amateur golfers Bobby Jones and Harrison R. "Jinmmy" Johnston are shown in this 3 1/2" x 8" original wire photo which carries the stamp of the International News wire service on the reverse. Jones one week later on June 20th would capture the British Open for the second leg of his Grand Slam performance of 1930. Jimmy Johnston was a greatly admired amateur rival of Jones who had recently faced Bobby in the quarterfinals of the 1930 British Amateur. Johnston himself was a great amateur champion having won the 1924 Western Amateur and the 1929 U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach. This photo originates from "The Sporting News" collection with their circular stamp affixed to the verso of this image.
