The consignor of this lot has provided the golf auction with this additional information on how this lot was obtained. Barbara Nicklaus invited Gary Player’s agent and our consignor “Her husband” to the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio the year Gary was being honored by the tournament and placed into the hall of fame there. The honorary medallion was given to Gary that evening and Mr. Player gave it to his agent in thanks for her years of service to the Player family.' Jack Nicklaus Memorial PGA Tournament each year is themed around a person who has contributed to the game of golf. Selecting honorees was Nicklaus' idea as a contribution to perpetuating achievements of the games' greatest individuals. One of the games' highest honors was started with the origin of the tournament in 1976 when Bobby Jones was the first honoree. In 1997, Gary Player (The greatest International Player of all-time, and one of only five Grand Slam winners) was named the Memorial Tournament Honoree. It is a privalege to offer in this auction the silver medallion he was awarded at the tournament ceremony commemorating this honor. The silver medal is 1 3/4 inches in diameter. Also accompanying this significant piece of Player memorabilia are his personal tournament hospitality identification card and tournament badge from the event. This Medallion would be a centerpiece to any golf memorabilia collection. This lot comes from a former Gary Player employee and close friend who received it directly from Gary Himself.
