Mickey Wright's 1952 USGA Girls Junior Championship at Pebble Beach Low Qual. Scorer Medal
This is the first known Mickey Wright USGA Medal to come to the auction marketplace and we honored to have been chosen to offer this museum quality and early Mickey Wight Championship Medal. Considered by many historians and fellow golfers to be the Greatest Female Golfer of All-Time, Mickey was the winner of 13 Major Championships, 69 additional LPGA Tour wins, and considered by Ben Hogan as having the best golf swing he ever saw! She won four (4) U.S. Women’s Opens and four (4) LPGA Championships in her career. She retired at the age of 34 in 1969 due to her aversion to flying and a foot issue only to stage a comeback in 1973 when she won the Dinah Shore before retiring once and for all. In 1952 Mickey Wright was presented this Medal by the USGA for being the low qualifying scorer in the 1952 U.S. Junior Girls Championship held at Pebble Beach and the Monterey Peninsula golf courses. She went on to capture the 1952 USGA Girls Junior Championship later that week for her first ever national title. Mickey is one of four individuals to be honored with their own exhibition room at the USGA Museum joining Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, and Jack Nicklaus. The U.S. Women’s Open medal has recently been renamed and redesigned with her iconic swing in her honor. This museum and investment quality medal is a must have for any of the world’s greatest golf collections. 1 1/2" diameter
