Mid 1800's Unknown Maker Rut Iron with Owners Initials 'A.M.' Shaft Stamp
Rut irons were utilized to get the head of the club on the ball out of a small space, caused by numerous different golf course intruders including horse-drawn carriages. Similar to many examples, this rut iron exhibits wear and includes nicks in the face likely from rocks and rough terrain. Here is an excellent example of rut iron, with the small smooth face head. 'A.M' shaft stamp. Reshafted. Obvious concave face shape. There is welcomed deep nicking at the tip of the lengthy hosel. Craftsmanship of skilled blacksmith is obvious. 39"
