Mid-Late 1800's McEwan Middle Spoon
Mid-brown stained club head. Each club element appears as original, with extra whipping on shaft. It is our opinion that this club is from the 2nd or 3rd quarter of the 1800's. The crown "McEwan" clubmaker stamp is the dimensions of 15/16" by 1/8" of an inch and features an underlined "C" which timestamps this club in the mid 2nd qtr. to early 3rd of the 1800's. This would have likely been made by either Douglas (1809-1886) or Peter Sr. (1834-1895) in the revered McEwan club-making family. Attached information card describes this club as 'Circa 1780-1800 Peter McEwan Middle Spoon.' This is from the L. Davidson Collection prior to Roberto's. 43."
The McEwan family was one of the top clubmakers dating back to as early as the 1770s, a time when feathery balls were still being played. The McEwan's were made up of six club makers with this club representing the fashion of craftmanship only seen with a McEwan. An excellent McEwan crafted club such as this example is expected to draw major interest from bidders looking to enhance their hickory club collection.
