Original Arnold Palmer Painting by Artist Walt Spitzmiller - Signed by Arnie - Framed
Prized artist Walt Spitzmiller's original collage painting of five Arnold Palmer poses intertwined in a single composition in this lot was gifted by Arnold Palmer himself to John Watson in appreciation of John's business and friendship. Watson was the Michelob brand manager for Anheuser-Busch. He was the catalyst for marketing strategies of sponsoring many professional golf tournament to introduce the Michelob Brand. John became a personal friend to Arnold Palmer, and thus was gifted this original Walt Spitzmiller painting in which Arnie signed to him on the matting. Spitzmiller's 1972 acrylic watercolor painting here was undoubtedly inspired by his Ryder Cup prints that were commissioned the year prior, similar in design - with the Arnold Palmer also beginning on the left with his tough and rugged profile. It progresses into Palmer putting, chipping, addresing his ball and following through in front of his army, all contained in an oblong rounded border.

As if painting for the pages of 'Sports Illustrated' and 'Golf Magazine' wasn't enough. Walt Spitzmiller's concentration in golf painting has driven his world-renown portfolio into exhibition at some of the finest establishments in the world, as best detailed on his fine art website. "His (Walt) golf art has been showcased by the United States Golf Association, marking only the third time in the association’s history that an individual artist was featured at Golf House. Many paintings hang in The World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Florida. The PGA Tour commissioned Walt to create original paintings of the recipients of their lifetime achievement awards, including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and president George H.W. Bush. The Tour also had Walt paint the members and two captains of the 2009 Presidents Cup teams and these works were presented as commemorative gifts to the participants." Additionally Palmer himself wrote a testimonial for Spitzmiller's work after viewing a St Andrews set depiction of him: "When I saw the painting, my eyes misted I and felt a lump climb into my throat. Not only did Walt capture the landscape at St. Andrews perfectly, but you can almost feel the wind and hear the sea when you stare at it. I also think his image of me captures all the feelings I have whenever I visit the links land. The beauty of that setting is to me the essence of golf. I think Walt did a wonderful job capturing that beauty and my admiration for it." The worlds of fine art and golf often have crossover collectors, with this lot checking those boxes in a big way, and oh yeah, you have probably heard of Arnold Palmer. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.

During extended bidding, each lot will have its own 30-minute countdown clock. The clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot for a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. Place your initial bids BEFORE 10pm ET in order to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you may bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. Lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 10pm ET
