Original Harry Vardon & Ted Ray in 1898 Open Oil Painting 'Vardon & Ray' By Artist Robert Fletcher
Tournament champion Harry Vardon is captured with his pre-turn of the century golf fashion posing with his driver at the final stop of his swing, with fellow Champion Golfer of the Year Ted Ray looking on club in hand at the 1898 Open Championship. It was Vardon's second of an incredible half-dozen Open Championships. Highly acclaimed artist Robert Fletcher took select artistic liberties in recreating this iconic black and white photo - giving life to the early golfing greats and removing gallery members alongside Ray to emphasize the 1912 Open Champion in this original masterpiece showcased in this lot.
Renown golf industry artist Robert Fletcher has dedicated nearly 40 years to refining his craft in the fine arts. His works are exhibited on the historic grounds of Cherry Hills and Colorado Golf Club in bronze busts, prior to participating as a lead artist in a recent Golf Heritage Society Meeting art workshop. His most recent success was work that was used as a tribute to the course architect team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw at the Colorado Golf Club. Robert has a unique style, with a mix of realism and and shadowing resulting in an almost a mythic result. This offering is for a tastefully framed original oil on canvas of the legendary Harry Vardon and Ted Ray by Robert Fletcher, with the prized artist's signature painted in the bottom right-hand corner. Fletcher's certificate of authenticity is included.
