Original Rare Bobby Jones Teeing Off on Augusta National Construction Grounds Photograph & Negative - Never Seen!
New find! This is only the second known photograph of Bobby Jones playing Augusta National during construction and prior to the grand opening. Opportunities like this do not present themselves very often so now is your chance. Presented here is a museum quality 5" x 4" photograph & original negative of Bobby Jones teeing off of what appears to the current 12th hole (then hole no. 3) during the construction phase of Augusta National Golf Club. Circa 1931-1932 - this spectacular photograph provides a large glimpse of the current 12th green, Rae’s Creek & 13th tee in the distance. This photograph has never been seen or reproduced in any manner (besides the original from Tommins Studio found in this lot), this is the first time it has been viewed since it went into the closet of the Miller family nearly 90 years ago. The photograph and negative are sourced directly from the Wendell P. Miller Collection who was Bobby Jones’ trusted Chief Engineer working alongside Alister Mackenzie for the development and creation of Augusta National Golf Club. The Miller family has decided to share this special relic with our bidding community. The Miller Family is giving all rights they have in and to this image to the winning bidder. A must have for the most ardent Jones and Augusta collector.
Please note that with their faces being turned away from the camera, it is difficult to verify exactly who the other gentlemen are. Based on the only other known photo from Jones driving on the construction grounds of Augusta National (8th hole), it is noted that Bobby's father Bob Jones, Sr. (Colonel), Clifford Roberts, and Alister MacKenzie accompany him in the photo.
