Payne Stewart Signed 1991 US Open at Hazeltine Ltd Ed Course Flown Banner
With near perfect placement the late, great 3-time major winner Payne Stewart signed this tournament flown course banner with his large, flowing penmanship. Culminating in an oversized and likely one of a kind relic originally sourced straight from Hazeltine Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, Payne's signature elevates this already extremely limited tournament used advertising piece with visual appeal. The 1991 U.S. Open was the 91st U.S. Open, held June 13–17 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, a suburb southwest of Minneapolis. Payne Stewart defeated 1987 champion Scott Simpson in an 18-hole Monday playoff to win the first of his two U.S. Open titles. Stewart left his black sharpie signature on this flag from the 1991 edition of the Junes US Open at Hazeltine Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota. Midwesterner, Springfield, Missouri native Payne Stewart outlasted 1987 US champion Scott Simpson in an 18-hole Monday playoff in the Minneapolis suburb for his second major in the region (first outside of Chicago at Kemper Lakes) and first of his two U.S. Open titles. His playoff round of 75 would be two lower than Simpson's. A triumphant fist pump from Stewart donning a red and white striped NFL Super Bowl shirt and one 'FORE' cleat off of the ground remains the memorable still from the tournament. Payne Stewart won three majors in his career, the last of which occurred only months before he tragically passed away in an airplane accident at the age of 42. Four fellow contestants that week also signed this piece in much smaller efforts including major winners Mark O' Meara and Nick Price. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.

Place your bids now as this auction will close LOT BY LOT beginning at 9:00pm ET Sunday, May 23rd. When placing INITIAL bid, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. The countdown clock will be set for a 30-minute interval. Each lot will have it’s own 30-minute countdown. The clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm ET
4. All lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 9pm ET
