Payne Stewart's Personal 1999 Ryder Cup Team USA Golf Bag Signed By Team
“When he (Payne Stewart) won the U.S. Open at Pinehurst, the first thing he said was he was in the Ryder Cup team, and he was thrilled to be in the Ryder Cup team—even more than he was winning the U.S. Open," Colin Montgomerie spoke in remembrance of Payne Stewart. It would be only a month later that Payne Stewart would tragically pass away at the age of 42. Prominent gold colored stitching reading "PAYNE STEWART" can be found on Payne Stewart's personal 1999 Ryder Cup Team USA bag primarily dark blue bag just above the large pocket zipper, with the embroidered tournament logo and signatures of Payne's fellow Americans (and Payne Stewart's own penmanship) surrounding it below. Payne Stewart's name is added to the bag an additional two times on the bottom gold-tone nameplate and the small back pocket in matching gold-tone stitching, in site from either side of the bag. The biennial matches of 1999 are known simply as the "The Battle of Brookline" and remain the most celebrated, unlikely United States Ryder Cup victory in recent memory. The Europeans lead 10-6 prior to the final round, needing merely 4 points on that Sunday to retain the Cup. Payne's teammate Justin Leonard drained a 45 foot putt to win the Ryder Cup for the Americans, overcoming the seemingly insurmountable deficit that the Europeans had worked so hard to achieve. It was a perfect end to a perfect season for Payne Stewart who relished in the comradery with his fellow patriots, forming the rare team sport atmosphere in the competitive primarily individual game of golf. Unfortunately it would also be his final season. One that will never be forgotten. Legible penmanship of US names on this bag that have gotten lighter over the last 20 years include Payne Stewart, Phil Mickelson, Justin Leonard, Hal Sutton, Davis Love III, Steve Pate, Jeff Maggert, Captain Ben Crenshaw, Jim Furyk, Tom Lehman, and Mark O' Meara. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot. A signed letter of provenance from Tracey Stewart accompanies this lot.

Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
