Phil Mickelson's 1990 US Open Official Scorecard - First Round at First Major Championship - Low Amateur

In a debut race that often yields an earlier example, none will ever pre-date this one. Incredibly Phil Mickelson's very first major championship scorecard with his time-period signature on the 'Competitor' line below his 1st round 1990 US Open 18-hole breakdown! Well-deserving of museum inclusivity, the tangible artifact was the start of a long story that has its ups, downs and twists and turns. Then recently crowned US Amateur champion by the USGA, Phil Mickelson grabbed the headlines entering his major championship debut at Medinah Country Club, just out of Chicago. Turning 20-years-old that week Saturday and tasked with out-dueling fellow future major winner David Duval for the Low Amateur - it was a memorable week for the successful Arizona State University student-athlete on summer break. He felt good about his debut major that came two years prior to turning professional.

“I got to three under through 14 on Sunday, and I felt like I had a chance to win the national Open,” Mickelson said in 2015 to GOLF.com. “Nobody else would say I was really in it, but that’s how I felt.” Mickelson would top Duval by 5 strokes for Low Amateur honors.

Two birdies and four bogeys, Lefty's first of many major championship scorecards was marked and signed - this one bearing an example of Mickelson's less-practiced pencil scribe of approval. Six major championships and 57 professional wins, the decorated amateur was a testament to longevity at the 2021 PGA Championship becoming the oldest major champion. This scorecard represents a historical first used at Phil Mickelson's first major championship round - the human highlight reel in his golfing infancy.
