Playwright & Novelist Betty Smith's Personal Walter Hagen Irons, Woods & Putter in Bag

Playwright and and novelist, Betty Smith is best known for her work titled 'A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.' The Harper & Brothers 1943 novel title was a metaphor for the ability to grow and better oneself even in an environment that wasn't ideal for it. The book that one the publisher's story contest was originally under the name 'They Lived in Brooklyn.' Babe Zaharias was a socialite herself in the 1940's and early 50's and got to know people of influence inside the golfing community and out - such as Betty Smith. This bag and clubs come from The Babe Zaharias Foundation, from her estate. This 'Walter Hagen - Miss America' club set and bag was used long after Smith's relationship with Zaharias, and carries a 1966 Crestview bag tag with 'Betty Smith' on the label. A signed letter from the founder of the Zaharias Golf Foundation, Hal Shaw, will accompany this lot. 33 1/2" - 41"
