Robert Floyd's 1996 US Amateur Contestant Badge -Semi-Finalist-Tiger Woods Record Third Straight Am. Win
Offered here is Robert Floyd's 1996 United States Amateur Championship contestants badge from Pumpkin Ridge G.C. which is comprised of metal measuring 1 1/2"x 1 1/2", and bears his name in the players section on the front of this memento. The look of this badge of player admittance has been the U.S.G.A.'s standard design on both it's U.S. Open and Amateur contestants badges dating to the late 1980's. Back carries original belt/hat clip and displays consistent wear. Floyd in his semifinal match against Steve Scott was defeated, 3 and 2, in a match up between University of Florida players. In the final it was Scott vs. Woods with the under dog leading the whole way until losing the 17th hole of the afternoon match to go all square, Scott made a clutch five-footer to push the match into overtime. On the first extra hole, he barely missed a 15-foot birdie putt that would have won the championship. Despite having led all day, it would be his only chance to put Tiger away. Tiger Woods completed his epic comeback on the 38th hole, and the chapter of his historic amateur career was closed with a record third straight amateur title and six straight years of U.S.G.A. championships. Within the week Tiger had turned professional. This is the first time we have seen a contestants badge from this historic moment in golf history come on the open market.
