Robert Forgan Semi Long Nose Putter - With Crown Stamp on Head and Shaft Stamp
Robert Forgan was the nephew of Fife clubmaker Hugh Philp. Robert joined Philip in the clubmaking business in the year 1852. Forgan had great skill in working with and identifying quality wood for club-making. Forgan took over the business and employed his younger brother James to assist after his Uncle's death. In 1863 Forgan was appointed as clubmaker to the Prince of Wales and thereafter he stamped the Prince of Wales' crest on his clubs. When the prince became King Edward VII in 1901, Forgan's stamped changed to a crown. Offered here is a semi long nose putter by Forgan that measures 35 3/4" to heel. There are head and shaft stamps, loose whipping at the hosel, and slight wear to the grip.
