Framed tastefully by the World Golf Hall of Fame for exhibition is an artifact from golf's major championship history that would certainly qualify as seldom seen, unless you visited the museum. On this 1934 PGA Championship number '47' cloth caddy number with sting loop on the verso are legible time-period signatures from golf luminaries of the 1930's including first and second place in Paul Runyan and Craig Wood. The complete list is a who's who of golf that competed for the title that week. Champion Runyan, 11-time major champion Walter Hagen, Runner-up Wood, 1934 & 1936 Masters champion Horton Smith, 1928 US Open winner Johnny Farrell, 7-time major winner Gene Sarazen, 10-time PGA Tour winner Ky Laffoon, 1941 PGA Champion Vic Ghezzi, 1931 US Open winner Billy Burke.

Paul Runyan completed the first of two PGA Championship Park Country Club victories in 1934, conquering Craig Wood in 38 hole finals of the then match-play event. A Check for $1,000 was made out to Paul Runyan for his success at the Williamsville, New York staged tournament. Runyan, in his Hall of Fame career, won 29 times on the PGA Tour highlighted by PGA Championship wins in 1934 and '38. His game was so acclaimed in the 1930's that he was paired with Bobby Jones in 1934 for the first 36 holes of the first Masters. The winning bidder accepts the role of custodian for this 1934 PGA Championship tournament used time-capsule chalked full of significant signatures from nearly a century ago. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot. A signed letter of provenance from The World Golf Hall of Fame comes with this lot.
