Sam Snead Signed Handwritten 1947 Ryder Cup Team Nomination Acceptance Letter
"I assure you that it is an honor to hold the so-cherished tradition to make this team the most outstanding one." Sam Snead wrote to Ed Dudley in response to his 1947 Ryder Cup selection. Snead endorses Walter Hagen and Craig Wood as the honorary captains and Byron Nelson as the playing captain for the US Team. This letter was composed in Snead's flowing cursive handwriting style and on his personal letterhead containing two cartoon golfers in hats that form the 'S' in both his first and last name. The 'Slammer' was very appreciative of his selection, as evident by the word choice and four handwritten paragraphs that he included in this response. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
