Sports Illustrated Magazines Signed by Snead, Player, Elder, & Jacklin
Displayed are four Sports Illustrated signed by the respective cover photo athletes.
Sam Snead leaves his signature in black Sharpie on this June 11, 1956 Sports Illustrated magazine cover. Snead signed the SI cover and is shown chipping from the sand trap. The magazine has held up nicely and comes to you in good condition. Snead is a seven-time Major winner, just a US Open title shy of the coveted career Grand Slam.
1974 was a successful year for Gary Player, winning the Masters and the Open Championship. The Aprill 22, 1974 Sports Illustrated commemorates Player's win at the Masters. Player left his signature on the cover boldly in black marker.
Lee Elder was the first African American golfer invited to play at Augusta, after qualifying for the 1975 Masters. He unfortunately missed the cut, but his presence at the tournament had an impact. Offered here is the March 10, 1975 issue of Sports Illustrated that Elder has signed in blue marker.
Tony Jacklin was the most successful British golfer of his generation. He won two major championships. Displayed is a June 29, 1970 Sports Illustrated that shows Jacklin during the US Open. Jacklin would eventually go on to win the tournament by seven strokes.
James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed the signature and their auction letter of authenticity will come with this lot.
