Tommy Armour Collection Including Stymie Iron, Photos, Driver, and Book

1. Stymie Iron from Tommy 'The Silver Scot' Armour - Gifted to Penna Family in 1960's
This club was made for the sole purpose of playing the stymie in match play. Before 1938, sixteen clubs were allowed in tournament play. This club was made for the "Silver Scot" in the 1930's. Tommy Armour used this club in match play. Charley Penna developed this relationship while working for 17 years as an assistant to Tommy Armour while he was head pro at Congressional, Medinah and the Boca Raton Resort. According to Charley Penna "NO ONE, (collectors, pros, historians, antique experts), has ever identified this club when I have shown it to them. I have never seen another, but they may exist." Tommy Armour's stamp, and personal record number are stamped on the back. The grip and shaft are all original. This Stymie iron was made just for Tommy Armour according to his personal specs. A once in a lifetime opportunity to add a historically significant match used club from the personal collection of a Hall of Famer.

2. 12 Various Photos - Tommy Armour and Sandy Armour

3.The Silver Scot's 'It's Rules and Decisions' by Richard Francis
Stamped Tommy Armour at Medinah and Boca Raton. Good condition, slight damage with a stain on the bottom right of the front cover. 5 3/4" x 8 1/2"

4. 1930's MacGregor Tommy Armour Driver-Stamp Rec 217 Silver Scot Model - Penna
With both the Penna brothers working with Tommy Armour as club professionals this club carried special meaning to the family. The stamping MacGregor appears on the sole with ramshorn insert. It contains a steel shaft with green sheath. The digit "1" appears on cap above the original leather grip of the driver. This club has had its original finish removed, but retains its original twine in an intact state. This vintage Armour club is truly a thing of beauty. While we're reviewing MacGregor Silver Scott drivers an interesting note is that Armour used to stamp his personal Mac woods with the notation "L.F.F." for "Let The F..ker fly."

These items come from the Penna Family Collection. This highly successful and respected professional golfing family offers golf mementoes from the careers of brothers Toney Penna and Charley Penna, and Tommy Armour whom Toney and Charley worked under for many years as pros at Boca Raton in Florida and various courses in the Chicago area. Toney was a consistent top 20 money winner on the PGA Tour in the 1930's and 40's while his brother Charley competed in 20 U.S. Open and PGA Championships. We have it all from their storied careers in golf both on and off the course, including everything from contestant’s pins, to used sets of clubs, and prototypes for Penna's famous clubs. Toney is an icon when it comes to club making in the 20th Century, first with the MacGregor Golf Company as their chief of design and then later with his own brand of Penna clubs. Many of the designs of club heads used today were first developed by the genius of Toney. We introduce you to this extraordinary collection by offering various lots from the family’s collection in this special offering. This is an opportunity to acquire golf history, possibly for the last time.
