1965 Spec Book from MacGregor
Covering the time period of 1964 into 1965 these design sheets covering more than 50 designs.Toney Penna was the design genius for MacGregor through out the 1950's into the 60's. A seldom seen look into the inner workings of MacGregor's which gained great renown for their club company spearheaded by Penna
In this auction we have several pieces of Toney Penna's prized design work which were highly sought after by amateur and professional players alike. Toney referred to many of these clubs as "Reference Clubs". The most perfect rendering of a model, these were used to compare a production club to its ideal. Toney frequently made prototypes, experiments , some were mass produced, some were left on the workbench. Many of his masterpieces were too costly or difficult to make , to be considered for mass production. One example is drivers with intricate face inserts, while beautiful, too many clubs would be rejected because the heads were easily ruined. These clubs are the best of the best, cream of the crop. Toney Penna handcrafted original pieces of art, many ONE of a kind.
