Vintage JP Cochrane & Co Edinburgh Challenger Golf Ball Metal Advertising Sign
JP Cochrane's line of 'Challenger' bramble golf balls began as a gutty prior to transitioning to a rubber core, standing the test of time. JP Cochrane opened shop under the "Cochrane & Co. Ltd. Edinburgh" in 1906 and focused primarily on golf ball production. This focus would expand to clubs approximately a decade into the 20th century. For bidding consideration in this lot is an early advertising effort of Cochrane with a metal sign boasting stong mint green backdrop to a central full-armor knight stepping forward and ready for battle. Ideal contrast from the opposite side of the color spectrum, red uppercase lettering covers the width of the sign on both the top and bottom "The Challenger" and "Golf Ball." This 10 3/4" x 14 3/4" metal sign exhibits proper wear for its century old origins, holding its color and graphics admirably. Mounting holes and some oxidation can be found on the verso being the expected condition detractors for a piece of this nature. Carefully curated collections with focuses of golf advertising and vintage balls demand inclusion of this fine example from those categories.
