Walter Hagen Photo Slides Collection
For the first time in 20 years up for auction from The Walter Hagen Collection is this grouping of Walter Hagen Personal Vintage 'Home' Photos - Fishing, enjoying family, and leisure time! The original consignor explains that he met Walter Hagen at the home of his father-in-law Carlton Plyler Sr. where Walter purchased a Brittany Spaniel from his Larue Kennels Company. The Plyler family then started caring for Hagen's dog during his extended, often extravagant vacations with his partner Doris Brandes. After Walter's passing in 1969 Doris moved to Cadillac, Michigan and was extended family of the Plylers spending holidays together. Hagen's once travel partner and companion passed away in 1989 and left her estate with her cousin Ruth. Well Ruth, knowing how close Shelby Plyler and her father had gotten to Doris Brandes, gave them a call and signed over the entire estate of Doris, and a lot of Walter's for that matter, to the Plylers.
Included in that estate was a collection of photo slides of Walter Hagen at his home and depicting his life off of the course. These slides tell a story, looking at Hagen through a different lens quite literally. The original letter of authenticity written and signed by Shelby J. Plyler from 2000 when sold as part of THE WALTER HAGEN COLLECTION will come with these slides. The final four photos in this lot are not physical photos, as they are some of the excellent Walter Hagen images that would printed out from the slides if developed.
