Walter Hagen's Personal Photo of Him with His Father in Chair - Shelby Plyer Letter
This photo came during a monumental time in Walter Hagen's life, as this was the only time is father William was able to see him participate in a golf tournament. William Hagen was member of the working class, a millwright and blacksmith at the railroad car shops in Rochester, New York. This moment came at the 1931 US Open at Inverness Golf Club in Toledo, Ohio. Here is a black and white shot of Walter Hagen with his father in the chair next to him, taken to remember the moment. The reverse is contains a pencil notation explaining this. This posed shot is from The Walter Hagen Collection, through Shelby J. Plyler. The final photo shows the certificate of authenticity that was issued by Shelby, in which she explains how she obtained the collection through his companion Doris Brandes. This is the first public offering of this photo in 20 years.
