1936 True Temper Steel Golf Clubs Cardboard Golf Advertising - Framed
In the early days of the steel shaft, the company was known as American Fork & Hoe. This would later change to a more graceful name of True Temper which is known in 2015 as the most popular iron shaft on the PGA Tour. The company traces its production of steel golf shafts to 1923. As a matter of history, Bobby Jones won the Grand Slam in 1930 with hickory shafts in his clubs. However, the world of golf was poised to adopt steel for its endurance, reliability and relative low cost. The United States Golf Association banned steel shafts in 1923, then approved them the next year. After the R&A approved steel shafts in 1929, golfers around the world began the process of converting to steel. This 1936 advertising piece measuring 13 1/2" x 17 3/4" and framed to 20 1/4" x 24 1/2" championed that conversion from hickory to steel. This beautiful keepsake shows apparent EX/MT quality, with extremely light wear but no visible faults of any kind on its front. Blank back verso has inconsequential ink markings.
