c.1900/1910's Original Lytham/ St. Annes Cabinet Card Photograph

This 6 ½ ‘”x 4” cabinet card photo on stiff board features a horse drawn wagon platform with “champion” golfers standing on the wagon platform. They are surrounded on the ground by what appear to be club members, and caddies holding golf clubs. Thus the staged photo appears to be documentation of a golf tournament capturing all the people involved in the tournament including the winners, their presumed caddies ( note both male and female) and the spectators. The wagon’s rails have various signs attached to include “Champion Golfers” with the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 near the golfers on the platform which appear to denote their finish in a golf tournament. Other signs visible include “keepers” far”, and “sure”. The photo appears to have been taken amongst sand dunes with the photographer perched high above on one. The advertisement for the photographer, David Hedges, on the rear of the card notes his location as Clifton Square in Lytham. There were two golf clubs that existed in Lytham/St. Annes in the early 1900s: 1) The Lytham and St. Anne’s Golf Club, founded 1886, present course established 1897, and received its Royal charter in 1926) and 2) The Old Links Golf Club, St. Anne’s on the Sea. Founded 1901, present course location established circa 1909. A unique early original cabinet card photo that would make a great addition to a golf photograph collection.
