David Graham & Andy North Signed Personal Golf Gloves
US Open champions David Graham and Andy North signed personally worn gloves in this lot on their palm with sharpie and ballpoint pen respectively. These were presented to The Dye Family for the 100th anniversary of the Urbana Country Club and offered to raise awareness and money for a good cause. Welcomed signs of usage can be found throughout the gloves, especially on the palms. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
Dye Family Collection
Dye Family Designs from Pete, Allice, Perry and P.B. make up a diverse golf course portfolio that spans the globe and is representative of over 60 years of excellence. Their courses have held 14 major championships, two Ryder Cups and a host of PGA Tour tournaments such as the annual Players Championship. In addition to TPC Sawgrass, designs include Whistling Straits, Crooked Stick Golf Club, Kiawah Island 'Ocean Course,' and Oak Tree Golf Club. This auction features scorecards from their original Urbana (Ohio) Country Club design autographed by friends and top golfers that were given to the Dye family in appreciation. These are now being offered with full proceeds going to the Dye family's chosen charity, International Circle of Friends.
Urbana Country Club of Urbana, Ohio set is known as a 'Dye Original.' What began in 1922 as a golf course design would evolve into a Dye family passion project started by Paul Francis Dye (Pete's father) and advanced to 'completion' by current club resident and his grandson P.B. Dye - an esteemed architect in his own right. Remarkably, the 'Dye Original' course is thought to be the only example of a grandfather-grandson design, with Pete and Alice Dye's son P.B. expanding it from a 9 to 18-hole course - turning heads at its re-opening in 1993. The historic Buckeye state course played host to Jack Nicklaus and Sam Snead's famous match in 1956. Jack recently recounted his memories from that day in which a promising local Ohio amateur was paired with the professional that was larger-than-life.
“Upon my arrival at Urbana, my excitement was stuck somewhere in my throat when I gulped at the hundreds of people gathered to see Sam,” Jack said to Urbana-based sports writer Steve Stout. “I had a rare case of the first-tee jitters, but Sam did his best to put me at ease. He could not have been nicer or more gracious … so much so that his use of ‘Junior’ all day didn’t bother me in the least. He finished by saying “It was a memorable week … I played with Sam Snead, won the Ohio Open and in between, began my love affair with flying.International Circle of Friends is The Dye family's preferred charity focused on the betterment of society in areas, many of which contain Pete and Alice Dye course designs which engrained the family into the communities. Their mission: provide resources for education, nutrition, and health care for at-risk youth in the Dominican Republic. Thousands of children are aided annually by the ICOF.All proceeds from this Pete Dye Collection sale will be given to the International Circle of Friends.
