1895 North Berwick New Club Rules & Regulations and List of Members Booklet


North Berwick Golf Club is the 13th oldest operating golf club in the world, being established in 1832. The club located in East Lothian was the first one in the world to welcome women as members. With an embossed red cover, using golf accents for font and page edging, this booklet from New Club, North Berwick is as distinguished as the club that it represents. It is an extensive member's handbook that covers the rules and regulations of the 1890 golf club, as well as listing the members from that time period. In the back of this booklet is the results for each of the club's member tournaments for the last few years. From the Edinburgh University Press comes this booklet from the 19th century, this booklet remains in good condition. There is slight aging to the red of the cover. This booklet's longtime owner was Otto Probst was the founder of the Probst library, which held the title of the world's largest and most comprehensive golf library to the public. This library included additions from Cecil Hopkinson, a renowned collector that Otto Probst himself looked up to. Towards the latter years of Probst's life The PGA of America organization aided in managing the very large collection of publications dating back to the 1500s. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, along with Royal Blackheath Golf Club and the Royal Burgess Golfing Society of Edinburgh, were some of the golf clubs that were of the highest interest to Probst, reflected in his library. This piece will come with a signed letter from Historian Bob Denney of the PGA, proclaiming that this item comes from their collection.

This auction will end at 9:00pm EST Sunday, July 21st with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow. All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period (at 10pm EST, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval)

1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins in order to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm EST
