1925 Yorktown Country Club Foreign Members List & Duke of York Member Content Letter
The 1929 stock market crash and subsequent Great Depression brought to a screeching halt the plans for the Yorktown Country Club. When the market crashed, the Riverview Course was laid out and construction on the Lakeview Course and the large hotel/manor had begun. The misfortune that befell the country during that time was just the thing that saved and helped to preserve the site of the Siege of Yorktown.
The Siege of Yorktown essentially ended the Revolutionary War, with Marquis de Lafayette managing a victory over General Cornwallis and Great Britain's troops. With the plans for a country club at Yorktown on hold, the community was able to see the need for preservation of the historically significant land. Today, the Yorktown Colonial National Historical Park serves to commemorate the importance that Yorktown had in the Revolutionary War.
Offered here is a foreign members list for the Yorktown Country club and a letter from the office of the Duke of York, accepting the privilege of being the Honorary President of the Yorktown Country Club.
