Bobby Jones Presenting Arnold Palmer Winner's Plaque 1958 Masters Tournament AP Wire Photo
One of the biggest turning points of the Masters Tournament in the popularity of this treasured event was the arrival of Arnold Palmer. On Sunday, April 6th, 1958, Palmer claimed his very first Masters Tournament victory. Genuine emotion is shown on Palmer's face in this photo after his holing his final putt to secure the victory. Taking off his hat became common practice after big victories, most famously after the 1960 US Open.
