1950 US Open at Merion Golf Club SERIES Badge #4148
Just over a year after being injured in a near fatal car accident, Ben Hogan claimed the 2nd of his 4 US Open titles at Merion. The 1950 US Open saw one of the most famed shots in the history of the sport, Ben Hogan's 1-iron approach shot to the 72nd green at Merion Golf Club. The original owner of this canary yellow ticket presumably witnessed Hogan's incredible shot to earn his place in a three way playoff the following day, Sunday, along with all the hard work that was done to get to that point. Hogan was able to defeat Lloyd Mangrum and George Fazio in the Sunday playoff by 4 strokes. The SERIES badge remains in great condition with jet black print, with a crease across the center with little detraction to presentation value. The stars aligned for the USGA's 50th Open Championship at one of the most prestigious golf settings in the world, forever remembered for Bantam Ben, his shot, and his comeback victory on the major stage.
